چکیده
The article presented by Bhayani, Holsinger, and Lai thoroughly evaluates the emergence of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) as a technique in the field of otolaryngology. Transoral approaches to the upper aerodigestive tract, whether for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, represent core tenets of the discipline and formed one of the bases for the inception of the specialty. Innovations and refinements in optics and materials have steadily increased the view, reach, and, consequently the effectiveness of the endoscopic surgeon with each passing decade. In the past thirty years, the introduction of the laser has further enhanced the capabilities of the surgeon, augmenting treatment options beyond open tumor resection and chemoradiation. The introduction of the daVinci robot is an incremental step in the development of techniques that have been evolving over the past one hundred and twenty years.

The First Successful Case of Transoral Robotic Surgery in a Patient with Sialadenoma Papilliferum
Introduction: Sialadenoma papilliferum (SP) is a rare benign tumor, which originates from the minor salivary gland. It occurs at sites that have minor salivary glands, such as the palate, retromolar pads, buccal mucosa, and lips. The most common location for tumor development is on the hard palate. A differential diagnosis consists of ruling out other salivary gland tumors. Transoral robotic s...
متن کاملA shifting paradigm for patients with head and neck cancer: transoral robotic surgery (TORS).
The evolution of surgical oncologic technology has moved toward reducing patient morbidity without compromising oncologic resection. In head and neck surgery, organ-preserving techniques have paved the way for the development of transoral techniques that remove tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract without external incisions and potentially spare the patient adjuvant treatment. The introducti...
متن کاملTransoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) for the Head and Neck: Current and Future Indications
Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) offers many technical advancements to existing endoscopic and transoral surgical approaches. This has faciliated a safer, less morbid and potentially more effective application of surgery to the management of both benign and malignant diseases in the head and neck. As this surgical approach gains widespread acceptance, it is important for all members of the trea...
متن کاملAssessment of Margins in Transoral Laser and Robotic Surgery
The growing practice of endoscopic surgery has changed the therapeutic management of selected head and neck cancers. Although a negative surgical margin in resection of neoplasm is the most important surgical principle in oncologic surgery, controversies exist regarding assessment and interpretation of the status of margin resection. The aim of this review was to summarize the literature consid...

BACKGROUND The aim of this prospective study was to determine the technical feasibility, safety, and efficacy of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for a variety of malignant head and neck lesions. METHODS From April 2007 to November 2007, 20 patients were enrolled in an institutional review board-approved prospective trial using the daVinci surgical robot. Inclusion criteria for the study cons...
